Anyone Attend A Diabetes Camp For Adults With Type 2 Diabetes?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Chesapeake, VA

I am interested in doing a diabetes camp for adults with type 2 diabetes. It's really a struggle living with family members who don't have diabetes and really not having a desire to get healthy.

Members warmly responded to a question about diabetes camps for adults with type 2 diabetes, though none had attended one, with many expressing interest in a similar opportunity to connect with others who truly understand the daily challenges of managing the condition. Several members shared practical strategies for navigating unsupportive household environments, including educating family members about healthier eating, politely declining foods that spike blood sugar, meal prepping separately when needed, and establishing consistent routines like daily walking, water intake, and blood sugar monitoring. A recurring theme was the emotional difficulty of living with non-diabetic family members who don't share the same health goals, with members offering solidarity and encouragement to stay strong, advocate for personal needs without guilt, and seek out community support through diabetes education classes, support groups, or faith communities.

I've done the diabetes education stuff. I am interested in camp for more socialization/info with people with T2D. I'm in SE Virginia.

That would be a great way to meet people who can relate to what you experience!

I've never heard of a camp for diabetics, but if you can go, I say go for it! It's hard for me too as my husband is a sweet fanatic, most of the time it doesn't bother me, but sometimes I just want to eat his ice cream without worrying that my sugar will be in the 200 the next day!! Lol

Hi Erica, I'm an early child development teacher of 2 year olds. My husband has type 2 diabetes and I don't but I take a medication for high blood pressure. I have 2 teens of 16 and 19 who eats differently from my husband and I but because my children can cook I just buy the food and let them cook. Most of the time they will eat what I cook for my husband and I which is a baked meat, a garden salad, sweet potatoes and mixed berries. We drink 1-2 liters of water daily and walk often. We both check our numbers twice daily and we live a blessed, happy life! 😁
