I need a dieticians that can help me with a diet plan of the foods I like to eat. I’ve tried all of these diabetic food plans and they have all failed because they are full of foods I don’t like to eat. I have a very narrow palate. I need a dietitian who can go off of the scripted diet plan and can truly customize a plan that is right for the patient’s needs.
Hope you find a diatition that can help. I am on a low fiber/low residue diet which is opposite of a diabetic diet. I have had trouble finding help with eating for both problems. I finnaly just went to counting carbs and three diabetic meds to keep my sugars at a reasonable level.
I try to eat between 30 and 45 gm carbs per meal. I kept a food diary on what I eat with carb count and sugar levels two hours after a meal, to find some combinations that didn't spike my sugars. I focused on one meal a day until I found go to meals when I didn't want to worry about it.
An example of a couple meals
Breakfast. An egg sandwich. Two eggs, two slices bread(white or simple whole wheat), 1 slice cheese, butter and 12 oz milk. 43 gm carb
I can switch this up and make fried eggs with toast, omlet with toast, French toast with 2 tbsp sugar free syrup.
Lunch, usually a sandwich. Two slices bread, lunch meat,1 slice cheese, mustard or Mayo. I sometimes add 1oz chips. 25 gm carbs w/o chips, 40 gm carbs with chips.
Dinner. Turkey burger, Velveeta and cheese( sm microwave cup) and half can green beans.
37 gm carbs.
Eating like this my last A1c was 6.7 and my average sugar level is 150. I hope this will help while looking fo a diatition.
Jim you may have to make your own list of foods.i haven't found an app that does it for me. All app I have tried add things I can't eat. The my fitness pal can help with it. Use the diary on it. Add food and search for what you like. It will give serving sizes and nutritional info. I also use the app to keep track of my food intake.
Sorry, but you need to change your palate. Fish, lean meat, green veggies are a must to eat.
I hear you. I'm a picky eater too. Most of what I like is on the "do not eat" list and the stuff that's left, I don't like. I have learned to at least try other things though and I eat more salads because I will eat things raw that I won't eat cooked. And I use protein powders too (with my Drs approval)
If you can see a Dietician who specializes in Diabetes, it would be best. They know how to help people with diabetes the best. They are really helpful with putting things together by your lifestyle and helping make small changes. No one can survive by making a huge change. Needs to be small changes.
