Anyone On Victoza?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

What are your pros and cons? Just started it last week - I've gotten off of insulin (Basaglar) and am now taking 1.2 of Victoza and 1000mg of Metformnin 2x daily.

Used Victoza for 4-5 months til my ins made it non-formulary. I did have some side effects. Upset stomach, occasionally, nasty belchies and periodic diarrhea (every 10-14 days). I also think it contributed to my current gastritis. It did work well for the diabetes though and I was weaning off insulin while I used it. Bydureon is the same class of drug as Victoza and is easier on my digestive system.

I take Victoza. I also take Lantus at night. The only thing besides losing weight woth the Victoza is Nausea or throwing up. Otherwise it works great.

I tried taking victoza, along with my present insulin of lantus, humalog and met. I got such a severe headache, I only stayed on it 2 days. I do want to try again though. I was concerned that I'd get nausea, but I didnt. Are you having any side effects?

Hi Carrie, I have been taking Victoza for just over a year now. It really works well for me. A1C down to 6.2, and much more stable blood sugars. No headaches. I have lost some weight on it. Only problem is affording the copays with Medicare. I don't know whether it's the Metformin or Victoza, but I do have some GI effects, nausea has decreased but I often have diarrhea. Good luck with it!

Hi Carrie, I started Victoza a few weeks back, and I'm still on the lowest voice, 0.06. Th first few days that I took it, I had severe headaches. So I stopped. I just restarted it again last night. No headaches so that's a big plus. However, I feel nauseous today. It didn't start right away though. I started feeling sick about 7 hrs after taking my dose. It could simply be the food I ate though. So I guess I haven't really given you pros and cons, but I can say I have read a lot of info about Victoza and most people say they lost weight and that their A1C went down quite a bit. I hope you're doing well on it so far. Are you having any side effects?
