Skewed Blood Glucose Readings?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone...I tend to analyze things to death. Just my nature. My question is....can blood glucose readings be skewed due to very thin blood? My blood is thin enough that I could read a newspaper through it due to blood thinners. I'm probably on the thinners for life which I don't like, but it is what it is.

Best to check with your Dr. If you overanalyze with diabetes, you'll drive yourself crazy. That being said, it took me a long time to let go of the numbers. They're just numbers. Sometimes no matter how good we are with our diet, we don't get the numbers we think we should. However, if they are consistantly higher than you think they should be, take a second look at how you are eating and also your meds. Maybe they need adjusting.

Hi Gail That's a good question' I did a couple of google searches and couldn't find a definitive answer.. But I would suggest you google diabetes and blood thinners there seems certain kinds of blood thinners and some diabetes medication don't mix

I know of all the various things that an affect blood sugar. I was just curious about it is all. I don't really want my numbers any lower as I experience lows now. Not often, but occasionally.

I think I would talk to my Dr. about that. Your sugars may be lower if your blood is thin. I don't know this for sure, but it could. Girlfriend, you can't over analyze diabetes. It will drive you crazy. Take each number as it comes, and go from there. Blood sugars can change for no reason. Stress, pain, whatever. I used to do that and the nurse told me my sugars are probably not going down because I am worried about it.
It took me a long time too to learn to take the number for what it was.....something to help decide what I needed to do. Eat or take insulin (if your on insulin), exercise (but never exercise hard if your BS is over 200) or nothing.
