My blood sugar goes up when I have a UTI and my kidney function goes down so I take the antibiotics when it happens. My kidney function has been fluctuating way to much for my liking this year.

My doc suggested Vitamin C instead of cranberry pills. I take one daily and haven't had a UTI since.

Still have to restrict carbs but no side effects. You can definitely hold off. My A1C was 9.5 and with diet and exercise I brought it back to 6.5 with the Metformin. I had diabetes for over 10 years before I went on it.
