Members shared strategies for resisting sweets when others around them are indulging, with the most common advice being to practice moderation, allow yourself small treats to avoid later binges, and keep healthier alternatives like popcorn or sugar-free options readily available. Several members emphasized the importance of communicating your needs to friends and family, asking them to be more supportive and mindful of what they eat around you, though some acknowledged having to distance themselves from people who couldn't respect their dietary boundaries. A recurring theme was reframing the challenge as a personal choice rather than deprivation, reminding yourself that what works for others may not work for your body, and finding ways to distract yourself like drinking water or waiting 15 minutes for cravings to pass.

It’s just one of them things, if they’re eating sweet or sugary stuff doesn’t mean you have to! Life is all about choices, same goes for food. Yes I know some/ most of that high carb stuff tastes great, but not a necessary thing to eat!!

Regardless of what everyone else is or are eating, doesn’t mean you’ve got to eat it. Being diabetic is hard enough and worrying what you’re going to eat etc is enough. Am not trying to sound mean, as that’s not my intention. Don’t worry if they’re eating sweets etc, yes it would be nice to eat all that stuff, but that incredible high blood sugar just isn’t worth it!!!

Eating in moderation. What's for everyone else may not be for you. Relax and chill out. It's between you and your body.
