Looking For Medication That Wil Help With Weight Loss
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

My Bariatric doctor wants me to change the medication that will help lose weight I just wonder if there is any in pill form. I am on Glipizide now but my doctor says that it causes weight gain.I am not good with needles. Just taking my sugars I have to close my eyes. I had gastric sleeve surgery in June of this year and my sugars are still not under control. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank You

Katherine may be right. I found that doctors are so specialized, they don't know anything except their speciality. May I suggest adding an endocrinologist to your list of doctors.?

Glucocil is not a medication it is only a dietary supplement. It is something you can take along side your diabetes meds as long as your health care providers say it's ok. You can't take it if you have any liver or kidney problems, and it is not regulated by the FDA. Glucocil supplement is a carbohydrate inhibitor meaning it reduces the absorption of carbs, reduces appetite and promotes insulin sensitivity. It's not had any research tests to say if it is a safe alternative to medication as it is only a fruit and herb based supplement. Some T2 only need a good healthy diet, while others need meds along side the diet, so before ditching your meds I'd ask medical advice from your diabetic team who know you best. I'd advise always do your research before changing any thing as there are so many complications with this diabetes, and not one size fits all, you can't see what's going on inside your body, best be safe than sorry....good luck....Chris

Don't underestimate the notion that your bariatric doctor might be appallingly ignorant of the real nature of a lot of diabetes drugs and the fact that most all of them make you gain weight...it's the perversity of these drugs and unless the bariatric doc has a verifiable sub specialty also in endocrinology, don't assume they really know anything useful about diabetes drugs. In my own travels I keep seeing people who have had bariatric surgery only to find that a certain persistence of weight due to the diabetes is just THERE.....PERIOD.....you need to challenge your doctors to a conversation about LEPTINS...there might be an issue there too.
