I was then put onto slow release tablets but couldn't even swallow them so went back to the original ones. Only taking 1 a day at the moment rather than 2. The more I read about these tablets the more worried and frightened I become.

It's risk versus benefit, my doc says. So there are side effects, but what's the effect of having high blood sugars? Scarier, I'd say.

I worried about taking metformin because I have colitis, but haven't had any problems with it. The benefits of having a more balanced sugar far outweigh the possible side effects to me. I feel much better now.

Thanks for your reply. I will persevere a bit longer. I have never been overweight and quite careful with what I eat bit still ended up being a diabetic. Although a few of my close family members are also diabetic 's.

Lots pf people, myself included, have taken Metformin without any issue. There seems to be some people that are on a personal crusade against Metformin labeling it in inflammatory terms like "poison" because they got diarrhea when taking it. Again, I, along with many others, do not have these side affects.

one person on this site wared about Metformin causing kidney damage. I did some research and found nothing that kidney damage was cased by Metformin. There is an issue in that if someone already has kidney damage, the kidneys will not filter out enough Metformin, causing a dangerous buildup, but even with mild kidney damage, the FDA says it is safe to take Metformin, This is not really an issue with Metformin since other things that can cause issues is not being filtered out.

After I did my research and found nothing, I asked the person that made the claim that Metformin caused kidney damage if he had a link to a medical site that discussed this issue, but I have not seen a reply.

The people that are happy with Metformin do not seem as vocal or inflammatory as those that had some discomfort.
