I work third shift and my A1c went up 2 points. I have been trying to eat not so many carbs at work.
Does anyone else work third shift and has their sugars under control? I am trying to find out what foods to eat at work that are not alot of carbs and won't spike my sugars. I sleep all day so I don't get a lot of exercise. Can anyone help me to get my sugars under control and lower my A1c? Any kind of help is appreciated.
Read about low carb on the internet. Try hard boiled eggs, cooked a dozen at a time and kept peeled in the fridge. Meat balls cheese, salad, cucumber.
The third shift struggle is real. Though I'm no longer working that shift I do understand how difficult it is to not order pizza or tacos in the middle of the night, which was what the rest of the staff did since they're the only places open. I found that as long as I packed my lunch and ate it before they went out for fast food, so I wouldn't be starved when they were ordering, that I was much less inclined to indulge. I packed things high in protein, so I'd be fuller longer and not have a sugar spike from the carbs, which made me feel bad and made it more difficult to get through the night. Once I started seeing the benefits of feeling better, and started losing weight, I was more motivated to eat healthy. I packed cheese, nuts, grilled chicken and lots of vegetables, which I dipped in avocado or hummus.
Thank you renee2. That was real helpful.
Thank you everyone for your help. I will definitly do this.
Take your insulin before you eat depending what you take. I take fast acting Novo Rapid before every meal and long acting 12 hour NPH in the morning before breakfast and at bedtime. I take glucometer tests before every meal and at bedtime using my readings to calculate my insulin amounts to take. This allows me to better control my glucose levels. I do have a good benefit plan that pays for all my test strips.
