Birmingham, AL

I'm taking Gabapentin 800 mg 3 times a day for neopathy damage. I have both numbness and pain, sometime severe stabbing pain. I think that is a max dosage. Is there anything else that helps with this problem?
My diabetes is not severe except for this problem. My A1C is usually 5.8.
Also I wonder what a A1C without diabetes would be?

Members shared their personal experiences managing diabetic neuropathy, with many describing persistent numbness and pain in their feet and hands despite taking maximum doses of Gabapentin. Several members offered alternative medications that have worked for them, including Amitriptyline (which helped one member regain feeling after adjusting the dosage), Lyrica combined with Cymbalta, and emphasizing the importance of discussing these options with a doctor since Gabapentin loses effectiveness over time for some people. A recurring theme was the serious safety concerns that come with severe numbness, including difficulty driving and distinguishing between brake and gas pedals, alongside practical self-care strategies like massaging extremities and maintaining open communication with medical providers.

Gabapentin didn't do anything for me so I am now using Lyrica & Cymbalta. Seems to be helping some.

I too have diabetic neuropathy probably because I didn't take care of myself for years. Wish I knew of a drug too. I also get itchy feet that drive me crazy.

Thank you. I'm able to directly email my doctor. I'll add discussion of Lyrica & Cymballa to my next visit next week.
