I drink a lot of coffee. I put in splenda and 4 tablespoons of half and half. That half and half only adds up to 4 carbs, but for some reason I have to put in for 30 carbs when I drink coffee. If I drink a second one right after the first, I only put in for 20 carbs. I do that so I don't stack the insulin. For me drinking regular cup of coffee, with 2 tsp of real sugar and 1 tbsp of soy creamer doesn't spike me much, but my carb to insulin ratio is 1:30 (1 unit of insulin per 30 grams of carbs).

Hello Heidi, We have a couple of things in common. Besides being diabetic, I love to quilt. I'm a beginner and learning so much. I love You Tube. I also need to lose some weight. I eat healthy but all of my weight has gathered in my abdomen since I started on insulin. Someone told me it was the insulin that put on the belly weight. Have you heard that? I've been on insulin several months.
I drink coffee with creamer that has a little bit of sugar (5g), and I look at the carbs and it says 5 carbs and I drink 2 cups of coffee so thats not bad and my blood sugar comes out good afterwards
I'm only allowed dairy free creamer because of kidneys disease stage 4. Sweetener bad for kidneys so use 1 sugar and adds up to 3g per cup. Only allowed 4 anyway because I'm limited to 1.5 litres a day so have dilute juice through night and sip on tea coffee all day. Have it cold alot lol because of that π
