Dr Jason Fung has wriiten : "the Complete Guide to Fasting", and it is his methods that form the core of my nutritional pattern. He is a renal physician from Canada who specializes in treating diabetic patients, and his methods have saved even people scheduled to undergo amputations. I have a 30-year history of diabetes, with a terrible health history including strokes, open-heart surgery, renal impairment, peripheral neuropathy, gastric paresis and carotid surgery. I have had to take early retirement. Since I have embarked on intermittent fasting in June 2016, I am recovering much of my health. I used to get breathless just walking up the driveway to collect the mail from the postbox and I can now do 3 km daily on the @exercise bike, as well as half an hour of resistance @exercises. There is another book by Dr Michael Mosely called something like:"Intermittent fasting for diabetics" which has a narrative style, but I have just lent out my copy, and I can't remember the exact title; it gives more detailed guidelines and even some recipes.
I fast 2 days a week and it has turned my life around. From taking 3 tablets/day, I now only take metformin. Weight loss of 35kg over 7 months, improved blood pressure, improved energy levels, concentration, memory etc. I follow Dr Jason Fung's recommendation, who has published 2 books and numerous papers on diabetes and nutrition.
Never heard of doing this. what is it?
fast month a month - don't do it if I wake up hypo but other wise its not been a issue doing so for the past decade of my life (been diabetic for 16 years now).
