if your leg is numb you might have hit a nerve when you took your shot. try to remember to check your sugar before you eat or drink in the am

@A DiabetesTeam Member; Caution! note that the so called fruit juices are sweet. Its just that they have Fructose & not Suçrose. Limit their intake or dilute them with water. Numbness, go see your Dr immediately.

Your glucose is low if it goes down below 4 mmol (72 ml). That is just the borderline and it can down quite a bit lower than that. However, if it is around that level, it is best to be planning to have a meal so that the body can use some nutrition for energy. If you use insulin as a treatment for Diabetes Type 2, and if it is a rapid insulin such as Novolog, it is given usually as a treatment to cover the glucose rise due to a meal. You usually taken the number of units needed to cover the rise in glucose. If you inject and don't eat, then the insulin will act to reduce your blood sugar even more and you can go dangerously low. Normally the insulin is given between half hour and 15 minutes before eating. The idea of testing before and after meals is to see how the glucose rise is being managed. If it is in a good range before the meal, and then 2 hours after it has gone up a lot, then we know that either the meal had too many carbs, or the medication (insulin dose) is not covering it properly and needs adjusting. This is just part ofo a learning process and doesn't mean that everyone needs to test before and after each meal. Once you know how the insulin affects you, you will know how much to dose, or if it needs adjusting. It is handy to do the 2 tests at the beginning of a new treatment, or change in your food plan, until you get to know how things are working out. Sometimes we need to go back to our doctor to get some more information on our treatment.
Hope your leg got better and that you haven't had that numbness again.

@New Member, Be cautious when you inject yourself not stick needle in veins/arteries to avoid the numbness.

why is this so important ? If I don't eat or drink, my glucose is too low. and then I just wait, drink some coffee with coffee mate, some sugar-free (diet) cranberry juice. then I have to check it again. 2 times! twice ???
