Members shared their strategies for managing diabetes during illness, with the overwhelming consensus being to stay well-hydrated, monitor blood glucose levels more frequently (as illness tends to make readings unstable and often higher), and maintain regular medication routines while resting as much as possible. Several members recommended practical comfort measures including homemade chicken soup with vegetables, herbal teas, sugar-free throat lozenges, and annual flu and pneumonia vaccinations (though some noted egg allergies as a barrier). A recurring theme was the challenge of balancing rest with the need for light movement to help control blood sugar, paying stricter attention to diet during illness, and showing patience with yourself as recovery from the flu can take several weeks.

@A DiabetesTeam Member - some good advice here regarding lots of fluids. Also remember to take your blood sugar readings more often when you're sick so they don't go dangerously high.

You can eat anything you would like as long as you know what the complications would be. Ontherwise you wil find out and never di it again. Good luck.🤣

Drink plenty of water so you keep well hydrated. Rest well. Take paracetamol for a temperature.

I had the flu for almost 1 month still stuck with this awful cough. What I would say is watch what medication you take because it can spike your sugars so high it happened to I literally felt my heart would stop and i wanted to pass out because the sugar was so high.Drink plenty of liquids.
