Januvia?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I was diagnosed with Type 2 a year ago. Doctor started me out on Metformin. In that period of time the dose got up to 2500 once a day, with Victoza added. I was so sick and fatigued I could barely get out of bed everyday. I kept telling my doctor about the fatigue, vomiting, he didn't change my meds. I found another doctor who recognized my adverse reactions to the drugs, and took me off of them.. Now I am on 100 mg of Januvia daily... so far no bad side affects. My AIC is 5.8. Is anyone else on… read more

Part 2 from above /below (whichever way it is shown)

Some ideas for lunches would be low carb crackers like Wasa, or whatever brand your grocery store carries, check the @ nutrition labels on the boxes and look for the one with the lowest amount of total carbs. You can use cream cheese flavoured kind, spread on these, or deli meats, or eggs, or cucumber slices, whatever your imagination can dream up, also you can roll meat up in lettuce leaves, if you can tolerate them, cheese stringers, hard boiled eggs, cheddar cheese slices, any vegetables you can tolerate.

I live in Ontario too, so I am using the same numbers as you are, and yes, they are different from those quoted in the posts from our U.S. friends. Their numbers have to be divided by 18 to become equivalent to our numbers, so if you see them saying their morning number was 106 for instance, divide that by 18 and you get 5.5 which would an excellent number indeed. 200 would be sky high at almost 12. However, our HbA1c ranges are quoted in the same type of calculation and you will see them quoting HbA1c's of 6.5, or 8.0, of 5.6, etc.etc. so just the same as ours are.

Where I live, we have a good diabetes clinic attached to our local hospital, abd I find the CDE's there to be very helpful and ready to suggest food items, or talk through problems. I only get to see them once a year, but I can email if I want, and although very busy they will usually get back to me when they have time. Good luck in getting better control.

Januvia was a life saver for me. Like you, I was sick on Metformin, yet the doctor kept saying how wonderful it is and I'll lose weight and all that. I actually gained weight! I broke up with that drug after 6 months of trying.

So far so good with Januvia. I also take Gliclazide and only my morning and bedtime numbers are still a little high. I have no horrible side effects. None! I can leave the bathroom. I can leave the house! I can venture out into public without worry. I can sleep all night without having any accidents. I am thrilled to be off that horrible drug.

I take metformin twice a day,500 mugs twice a day plus Juvenal at night.I also take glipiride once a day. I do have stomach issues. I was once on insulin and ask to replace it with juneva. So far so good. I have been on it for a year. My Ac1 usually range from6.1 to point 6.7.

I am feeling so much better off the metformin. I loved the cost of it and Januvia is quite expensive for me but having the bathrooms issues and stomach discomfort is worth it:)
