Fasting Blood Sugar Or Fbs As We Call It For Short, How Does This Work
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

For those who have high fbs just remember it has nothing to do with what you ate the night before. Because usually we have a good 3 to 5 hrs between meals while awake, and our numbers are pretty decent in between meals. Also if you test your sugar level after 2 hrs of eating your last meal of the day, you will be at the highest peak at that 2 hr point and then your numbers start going down as per usual. So a meal you ate 8 to 12 hrs before you wake up, if anything should bring your numbers down… read more

Why Are Ranges For Fasting Numbers Lower Then After Meal Numbers?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Have you ever wondered?

First off, what are good or acceptable fasting numbers according to the guidelines?

A "normal" fasting number is any reading below 100/5.5 mmols.

A "good" fasting number is anything below 108/6.0 mmols and an "acceptable" number is anything below 126/7.0 mmols.

But WHY does that cap out at 126/7.0 if ANY NUMBER below 144/7.8 causes "zero damage"?

The "thinking" actually makes quite a bit of sense. Typically our Fasting Numbers will be some of the lowest numbers we… read more

Has Anyone Had Weight Loss Surgery To "cure" Diabetes?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been told that after having this surgery I would no longer have to treat my diabetes. However I am wondering if I would be trading one set of problems for another. Since I have a weight problem being approved is not a problem, but I prefer to do things as naturally as possible. Some insight would be helpful and appreciated.

How Are You Controlling Your Diabetes Journey.
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi @A DiabetesTeam Member, and Samurai warriors
Diagnosed February 2021, A1C 13.5. Low 5s since.

My new doctor wanted me on long acting insulin, quick acting insulin, and metformin. I negotiated a 3 month reprieve from diabeted medications, because I gave her evidence that was diabetic for at least the previous 12 years. Baby steps.

Most of my meals look like stir-fry, eggs, soup, salads, or some combination of the above. Baby steps.

I eat to blood glucose meter, my blood glucose numbers… read more

How Do You Get Rid Of Body Fat?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

This is one of those questions that most of us have pondered at one time or another and if you poke that into Google you will get thousands of answers

Everything from eating Kale three times a day to juicing to cleansing to detoxing to following some whacked out diet - everyone has an opinion

But what do the experts say?

I'm no expert but have always advised simply "eat less than you burn up" (calorie wise) and you will burn body fat

I saw a great answer the other day (maybe in newsweek)… read more

What Is The Secret To Losing Weight And Keeping It Off?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

This question in one form or other seems to come around again and again.

Weight control is important to Diabetes Management for two reasons.

First off for every point our BMI is above 25, our insulin resistance gets worse.

Second off for every point our BMI is above 25 it puts extra strain on our heart.

Now I'm not going to get into a big discussion about Positive Body Image or Healthy At Any Weight or how some have a Slow Metabolism.

You need to hide those crutches in an unused closet when… read more

Do We Need To Manage Our Expectations When Living With Diabetes?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

The other day I was watching some show, characters were all excited when one said “Slow Down – you need to manage your expectations”.

I got thinking - does this apply to Diabetics?

The day we get our Diagnosis our Life changes Forever.

I see many who seem to think their next 10, 20 or 30 years have gone down the drain now that they are “Diabetic”.

Whether we choose to ignore it, jump right in with both feet or settle somewhere in the middle Diabetes will be with us for the rest of our days… read more

What Is Diabetes Remission And How Can You Get There?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have posted about this before but as we see new members the subject comes up in various forms in a number of discussions, so I'll yap a bit about it again.

The "definition" for Remission is achieving an A1C below 6.5 without medication, for at least 6 months after discontinuing medication and then maintaining it on an annual basis.

An A1C of below 6.5 is a great target - it will help prevent the most significant diabetic complications. If you can manage to control to "sub-6.0" that pretty… read more

Hi All. Two Questions About Mealtimes And Diabetic Body.
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have heard so many people say they have to eat at specific times, (Scheduled) that it worries me. I am very likely to eat breakfast at 11 AM I if I'm not working on the day. Is it really important to be scheduled. I am not the least interested in eating in the AM, and often have no appetite at 5:00PM either but have to feed my family... 😣
Also, I have days when I will be burning hot one minute and freezing cold to the bones ten minutes later. Is this possibly related to diabetes?

A DiabetesTeam Member

Eating regularly helps regulate BS. Gives your body time to burn the carbs with keeping away lows.
