Remission is now a consensus definition that states its a condition where the A1C of a diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic is below 6.5% (48 mmol/mol in the metric A1C scale) for minimally 90 days "without the use of any anti-diabetic medications"
To remain in remission you must maintain a sub-6.5% A1C, without medication, on each successive A1C test
What that does NOT mean is that you have cured it, rolled back to normal, can go out and eat pizza chased with coke or that if you don't slip one tiny… read more
It's amazing how easy it is to exercise if u have a pet dog for long daily walks
Hi all you warriors
I've been controlling my diabetes journey with right eating, portion control, Japanese science and medicine, exercise if your doctors allow, attitude, and a compelling reason to do what is necessary. I sleep 6-7 hours nightly, 8 is better. I do 10-15 minutes self care daily. Baby steps.
I am half Japanese and a recovering rice-aholic, I ate rice 2-3 meals a day my whole life. Now I have 1 tablespoon 2x a month and savor it for the taste and memories, more and the binge… read more

Metformin is the most common diabetes medication on the planet.
Some hate the stuff, others question it, some can't tolerate it, most of the rest simply take it and get on with their business.
Since just about all of us have at least heard of the stuff, I put together a piece on it to shed some light on this medication.
The source of today’s Metformin is a traditional and natural/herbal remedy that was first medically researched in 1918 - so if you want "natural" this is it.

It's PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
According to data demographics in the USA.
We have been told that the diabetes incidence of the general population of the USA is almost 12%
Diabetes is much more common in the 65+ age group than we were led to believe.
29.2% of all adults 65 are diabetic.
By age 75 it is almost 35% diabetic.
So as diagnosed with diabetes, we are not alone. We are almost 1 in every 3, 65 year olds as diabetic.
In my church, there are 11 of us 65 +. All but 3 are diabetic

No need to be sorry JW
I read countless posts that all say the same thing
"My blood sugar is always high and I'm having trouble...."
In case anyone doesn't understand it is High, uncontrolled Blood Sugar levels that KILLS US 100% of the TIME
And it's not a nice quick painless death
It starts out with painful neuropathy, mostly in the legs and feet - those that ride that wave to the end see toes, feet and legs amputated - it IS SERIOUS
Or maybe you would prefer to go Blind from Retinopathy - leading cause of… read more

Since there is still many who believe the incorrect information that led to the demonization of Eggs a couple decades back, this is a paragraph from this months "Diabetes Care Community" Newsletter.
"Because eggs are a rich source of cholesterol, it was once believed that people should avoid eating them on a regular basis. We know now that this is a myth as several studies have shown that dietary cholesterol has little effect on blood cholesterol levels in most people.
Most of the cholesterol… read more

For those unaware the “morning club” started as a challenge.
Henry soon took charge and turned it into a way to engage members.
I will suggest that more Type 2’s die from “complacency” then high blood sugar – if you ignore your condition that is a path to “death by complication”.
Many, including our Doctors focus too much on after meal numbers – those are typically the “high ones” that can cause damage, but what about fasting numbers?
A Clinical FBS test was used for diagnostics until the… read more
Yes when I was diagnosed diabetic, my sugar levels were between 17.5 (USA 315) and 19.2 (USA 346), my A1C was 11.9 % (which means my daily average sugar level for the 3 months prior to that A1C was… read more
The Liver is pretty amazing organ.
It filters out “crap” in our blood including left-over meds, is responsible for the cholesterol in our blood (not eggs) and when it comes to Diabetics, its role in sugar storage, production and release will be the focus of my rant this evening.
When it comes to blood sugar, the liver is the “source” anytime we are “not eating”.
It sometimes seems to have a mind of its own – primarily noticed in our high fasting numbers.
The Liver is like a two gear machine… read more
So this turmeric idea...how and how much do you use? I have a few recipes that ask for it, but it is very little and I think mainly for the pretty color it gives to the dish.
Normal Fasting Numbers (non-diabetic) are below 5.5 mmols/100 and good numbers are below 7.0 mmols/126
(even “sugar eaters” will see numbers up in the latter range occasionally and are not considered “dangerous”)
Our numbers fluctuate but it is the high ones that usually generate the most “guessing” as to why.
So I went a dug out the factors known to cause High Fasting Numbers (these were all identified in various clinical studies and then compiled)
First are the “chronic conditions” that… read more
