@A DiabetesTeam Member The alpha lipoic acid doesn't work right away. It will gradually work. Finding relief from nerve pains can be exhausting. You are very welcome.
Thanks Joyce586,
I have tried several medicines and I didn’t notice any difference. Will check with my pc doc about the Alpha Lipoic acid, also look into seeing a vascular specialist.
Thanks for the info.
Blessings
Seeing a vascular specialist can help slow the progression. Alpha lipoic acid has been scientifically proven to regenerate nerves. Lyrica and gabapentin just masks the problem while it gradually worsens. But please get the advice from your doctor regarding any new meds, even OTC ones. ALA shouldn't be taken if you take anxiety meds and can interfere with diabetes meds. My doctor approved my request for taking them as long as I don't take it with my anxiety meds.
I have severe neuropathy, and the Lyrica only helps minimal at best. I just started seeing a vascular specialist, a neurologist in May and I also go to pain management. Hugs
That's a great question, but it falls a bit outside the scope of what can be helpfully addressed here, since the focus is on diabetes-related health topics.
What can be shared is that diabetic peripheral neuropathy — nerve damage caused by high blood sugar — has no cure, but it can be managed and its progression slowed. Here Show Full Answer
