They say cut out animal proteins and fats. It’s by Dr. Neal Barnard. Anyone tried this approach with any success. I’ve done low carb.

Members shared a range of personal experiences in response to a question about Dr. Neal Barnard's vegan, high-carb approach to managing diabetes. Several members noted that while a fully vegan diet was difficult to maintain long-term, reducing saturated fat and red meat, eating more plant-based foods, and watching portion sizes helped them manage their A1C and cholesterol levels. A recurring theme was that diabetes cannot be fully reversed but may reach remission, and that what works varies greatly from person to person, making it important to consult a doctor before making major dietary changes.

@A DiabetesTeam Member, very true you cannot reverse diabetes, my goal is not to reverse since I know once a diabetic always a diabetic but my biggest concern is blood pressure and cholesterol and if my biologic causes my blood sugar to rise then maybe a new eating style will help keep it in check. I’m hoping it helps reduce my inflammation as well. Only time will tell. I realize that if you revert back to old habits diabetes will in turn progress.

There is a lot of miss information out there trying to take people's money with false promises. I don't eat red meat to often myself.

Knows you can't reverse diabetes. She tries different approaches to try to manage her diabetes. She is like myself, we don't do well taking meds.
If anybody tells me they can reverse diabetes I know it's a lie.
A self proclaimed doctor approached me and said she could reverse diabetes with a tincture she had made. I told her to get lost and blocked her on all my social media platforms.

Dr. Neal Barnard's book is a well-known resource in the diabetes community! His approach focuses on a low-fat vegan diet rather than low-carb, which is quite different from what many people with diabetes are used to hearing.

Some DiabetesTeam members have explored plant-based eating with positive results. Research does support that a vegan or plant-based diet can help with:

- Lowering blood sugar levels
- Improving insulin resistance
- Supporting weight loss
- Reducing LDL (bad) cholesterol The reason carbs may work differently on a plant-based diet is fiber. Plant foods are high in fiber, which slows digestion and helps prevent blood sugar spikes — so not all carbs behave the same way in the body.

That said, a vegan diet isn't automatically healthy. Watching out for processed or sugary foods is still important, and nutrient gaps like Vitamin B12 and iron are worth monitoring with your doctor. Since you've already tried low-carb, it could be worth discussing Dr. Barnard's approach with your doctor or dietitian. Everyone's body responds differently, and a professional can help tailor any new eating plan to your specific needs and medications.

I have a small portion of carbs occasionally & it's done my TYPE2 no harm whatsoever so there is no need for a carb free or a vegan high carb diet cos regularly eating high carb foods is dangerous. I've been TYPE2 for nearly 31yrs & occasional small.portions of carbs have done me no harm whatsoever NUFF SAID. Diabetes is all about A BALANCED DIET & there's no need whatsoever to change to a high carb vegan diet unless you're a vegan anyway. NUFF SAID!

@A DiabetesTeam Member no offense taken. It’s good to hear other people’s experiences. That’s how we learn. I don’t think living a vegan life permanently is in my plans more a temporary plan, I would fare better as a vegetarian as I do love my dairy and eggs. Veganism is to see if perhaps I can get a handle on my other health issues and perhaps help my diabetes. I do need to cut back on red meat and fat. I will be having a discussion with my Dr. to see if he feels I’d benefit from it.
