That A1C is pre diabetic range. That will keep cumulative damages and comorbidities at bay. Good for you Paul. I was at a 5.5 A1C non diabetic range. I achieved that with Trulicity a GLP-1. I haven't needed a shot in almost 3 weeks. My numbers are staying at an acceptable level for me. My doctor did call a script in to the pharmacy incase I needed a shot.
I'm very proud of the actions you took, being proactive. Actually, I feel a little stronger when I am a little heavier. I was at 130 lbs but have gained 10 lbs.
I'm cool with that.
At least my pants stay up now😂

@A DiabetesTeam Member, @A DiabetesTeam Member, my paternal grandmother and uncle are diabetics, my dad I think was on the road to being diabetic and embarked on dieting and walking 3-5 times per week and lost several pounds. I myself started to embark on losing weight when I hit 260lbs for a 5’8” frame SO when the doctor said I was diabetic with an A1C of 6.2-6.3 attributing it to family genes. I said no and did not agree to the diagnosis. I embarked on exercise, drinking water, switching diets the A1C went down to 5.9-5.8 after 6months. Weight was 180-190 lbs. I pushed harder changing my diet to more vegetables, meats/fish, wheat bread and half cup of rice per day and still with exercise. Currently weight moves between 170-175lbs but was told not to lose weight anymore as I was getting older and need some fat left. I did try 165lbs but felt weak so I now stay at 170-175lbs range. By God’s grace and enabling, I pray I avoid getting into the diabetic level. Have a great weekend everyone. Take care.

I have been trying to teach my son that, he recently started walking after meals. He is 5'10 and weighs 220 lbs. His BMI is over 31. He is obese. I told him he needs a BMI of 25 or less. He said it's cool that I am in a diabetes support group. I told him he was welcome to join us. He said he would think about it.

The single biggest factor for 8 out of 10 people with Insulin Resistance is their WEIGHT

If you are overweight (BMI greater than 25 - and lots of arguments about validity of BMI but in this case it matters) your insulin resistance will be significanly higher than if you are normal weight

That's why maintaining a normal weight as a Diabetic is paramount if you want to "help yourself"
