Reading between the lines, the childrens recommendations are for mostly type 1s.
Those in their 70s and older. Life expectancy is the time frame that dictates relaxing the A1C range a bit.
But because I am still just a baby, I am only 73... I am shooting for a nondiabetic A1C. I plan to live longer than anyone I know.
And I don't want to deal with diabetes complications and comorbidities.

Yes as you get older your guidelines change to a reading of 8 . Hard to get use to especially when the goal was 5.
