I had gestational diabetes with my oldest. He is now prediabetic. Myself was diagnosed with type 2 at 46 years old.
Yes, there is a well-established link between gestational diabetes and developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Research shows that around 50% of women who have gestational diabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes within 5 to 10 years after giving birth. My oldest son's head looked like a watermelon from be squeezed through the birth canal. I cried when I saw him. The doctor assured me it would go back to normal. He was born with long jet black hair, and a 4 inch long rat tail. Him and I have a close bond. He favors me a lot.
@A DiabetesTeam Member my som also had a punctured lung but I was told it was from being squeezed through the birth canal. At 12.4 he barely fit in the incubator. 24 in long feet and head touched the incubator wall

Our youngest 3 each had their lungs punctured and were in the neonatal intensive care unit for days.
When Zach our 9 pounder was suctioned by a trainee at this teaching hospital. She punctured his lungs.
When Lizzy was born, I said don't allow someone training to suction her lungs. I want someone who has lots of experience to do this - no trainees - considering our past experience here. Our close family friends are lawyers.
They allowed a trainee. Punctured her lungs. In neonatal intensive care for days on Oxygen. We let it go.
When Ben was born, same hospital, same deal. Told them I would sue. Trainee punctured his lungs. Neonatal intensive care for days on Oxygen.
We sued. A large settlement. We established a fund to help families in need. $10,000. per family. It will run out of money next year. He's now 31.
