When the body is insulin resistant, it means cells aren't responding well to insulin. So the pancreas (and any injected insulin) has to work harder to get the same effect. Adding more insulin is essentially "overcoming" that resistance by flooding the system with enough insulin to still get glucose into the cells.
Think of it like a stubborn lock β you don't give up on the key, you just push harder. Being on Ozempic alongside insulin actually makes a lot of sense. Ozempic works differently β it helps the body release insulin more naturally and reduces how much sugar the liver dumps into the bloodstream. Together, they tackle blood sugar from different angles.
Some reasons a doctor might combine insulin with Ozempic include:
- Blood sugar or A1c levels are still too high on one medication alone
