To answer your question.
A family doctor is fine if your diabetes is well controlled.
They just take out the chart, look for your A1C, see what the row and column says and prescribes you those medications.
Usually that is as far as they need to go. If your family doctor has a history with you and knows you as a whole person. Things can go even better.
I was in clinical remission for 5 years.
My niece is an endocrinologist. I check in with her a couple times a year. She has always told me that I would be wasting my time and the endocrinologists time if I saw one.
So I never saw an endocrinologist. Until the 5 months of oral prednisone to heal my lungs. My body normally takes 3-6 months to recover from any upset. But my PCP was way out of her comfort zone and referred me to an endocrinologist. 4 months till I could get an appointment.
The bloodwork he did was nice to know. But since none of it was what he expected, I'm good.
So I addressed the problems in the best way for me, from my engineering mindset.
I'm done with all my diabetes medications but 1 and I will slowly titrate off the Jardiance.
I really did not need the Endocrinologist, because I'm reducing my medications on my own. But he did know how to navigate Medicare and get Medicare Part B to cover my cgms. I'm thankful for that.
I will give him his walking papers in the next year.

A re-broken rib is just a minor inconvenience and irritation.
I am blessed with them 1-2 x a year for the last 30 years. So I know the drill.
That bad car accident that I was blessed with 30 years ago. Broke all my ribs popped them all off my sternum. Broke my neck in 3 places, tore up my shoulder and back. Both legs were impaled under the dash on screw heads.
Was paralyzed 2x on day 3 and on day 10. The day 10 paralysis lasted for 3 days. I still must watch what my legs are doing when walking because of continued partial paralysis. Face planting is no fun. My legs don't always do what I think they are doing, so I constantly watch my feet so I can adjust.
I was flat on my back for 4.5 months with a bedpan and urinal. Then I was allowed to get up and walk to the bathroom. My leg muscles wasted away. I began to rehabilitate my muscles. At 5.5 months I was given the okay to go back to work. But work was afraid of liability.
They finally allowed me to return to work at 7 months. My short term disability moneys ended at 6 months. So more credit card debt. And I had to pay out of pocket for my family's health insurance.
Fun times. I used vacation time to go to work Tuesday, Thursday week 1. M,W,F the 2nd week. M,T,Th,F the 3rd and 4th week. And all week from week 5.
At week 8, I had a stroke that affected my right side. I was part of our in house First Responders. Our plant nurse was the head of our small group of 7. I called her and told her what I suspected. She came 1st.
We prayed over me. I asked for the healing to begin right now. I felt a gentle warmth that rose from my neck to the top of my head and stayed there for more than 30 minutes.
My handwriting, right handed of course, was awful, but slowly got better over a few months. By the time I got to the hospital they could not see the clot so they couldn't do either of the quick interventions for a stroke. The healing had already begun. After 5 hours they sent me home.
Prayer is powerful.
