@A DiabetesTeam Member. I was diagnosed type two 1986 or 87. What i have learned is we are all different. The best way to figure your eating etc is by keeping a food journal and testing frequently? I hope they (inmates are taught this! If the food is like other institutions it must be difficult for them. My local senior center serves lunch for seniors. It is way to carbohydrate loaded for me! And they have a nutritionist planning their menu.
Have you been blind all your life or is this a consequence of your diabetes?
Ask lots of questions of the teams you join. We all learn from each other.

Having been in New Jersey State Prisons doing Prison Ministry since 1984.
Yes diabetes can be controlled with medications and food.
Most tend to be non-compliant and have issues. Imagine that.
They tend to do what they want.
This is a generalization. But look at yourself and others diagnosed with diabetes.
Most are looking for a magic bullet. It's not out there.
It's discipline and hard work.
But the rewards are great.
Both my parents and 1 of my brothers died from diabetes complications and comorbidities.
I will not let that be me.
