How long ago were you diagnosed with type 2.

What makes you think you are type 1.5, and autoimmune disease where your body destroys all the insulin producing parts of your pancreas.

There is a blood test that can determine if you have type 1.5. It looks for specific markers in the blood. Ask for the bloodwork.

Good luck @A DiabetesTeam Member.

We just spent New Year's Eve with 7 youngest of our 12 grandchildren. All of our grandchildren younger than our great grand daughter.

Our youngest grand daughter is Cora - age 11.

Never give up,
Never surrender,
Never ever.
You got this.
Have a wonderful day.

Have you heard of type 1.5 diabetes, and could someone diagnosed with type 2 actually have it?

Have you heard of type 1.5 diabetes, and could someone diagnosed with type 2 actually have it?

Yes, type 1.5 diabetes is real! It's also called double diabetes or latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). This happens when someone shows signs of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes at the same time.

In this condition, the immune system attacks insulin-producing cells (like type 1), but the body also has trouble using insulin properly (like type 2). This makes blood sugar harder to control than with either type alone.

Why misdiagnosis happens:

Research shows that more than 40 percent of people diagnosed with type 1 after age 30 are initially treated for type 2. Many adults with type 1.5 are first told they have type 2 because the symptoms can look very similar.

Signs you might have type 1.5 instead of type 2:

- Blood sugar stays high despite lifestyle changes or medication
- Metformin doesn't improve your blood sugar levels
- Unexplained weight loss
- Your body is more sensitive to insulin than expected
- Frequent infections or extreme thirst

If you suspect this might apply to you, talk with your doctor about testing for GAD antibodies and C-peptide levels. These tests can help determine if you have type 1.5 and need different treatment, which usually includes insulin therapy along with medications for insulin resistance.
