I don't smoke or vape, I strongly recommend diabetics who smoke or vape to quit.

Can smoking and vaping worsen diabetes?

Yes, smoking can significantly worsen diabetes and its complications. Research shows that smoking is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, and people who quit smoking have a 30 to 40 percent lower chance of developing the condition compared to those who continue smoking.

Even if you're already living with diabetes, smoking makes it harder to keep your blood sugar under control and greatly increases your risk of serious complications.

How smoking affects diabetes:

* Smoking influences how well your body manages blood sugar levels
* People with diabetes who smoke develop cardiovascular complications much sooner than those who don't smoke
* These complications include coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease
* Smoking increases the risk of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in the legs, where blood vessels become narrow or blocked
* Smoking can contribute to nerve damage (neuropathy) through blood vessel damage

The good news is that quitting smoking can help you manage your diabetes better and reduce your risk of complications. Many people on DiabetesTeam have shared positive experiences after quitting, with one member noting, "I quit smoking four months ago and that has really helped."

While smoking itself doesn't directly change blood sugar levels, the long-term effects on your cardiovascular system and overall health make it particularly risky when combined with diabetes.

Diabetes can also affect also affect your eyesight, I always have two appointments a week apart to make sure my results are the same.
Smoking will also affect your results as well as causing other damage to your eyes e.g. cataracts, macular degeneration.

The AI gave a terrific answer to that question. The damage it does to the lungs is enough to make you quit. My uncle has smoked for 60+ years
He is in the final stages of COPD. And he wears oxygen 24/7. He can no longer take care of himself because of the COPD
