As a pre diabetic my Dr has not prescribed me any medication. I have lost a lot of weight, exercise daily and watch what I eat.
Glucophage (metformin) may be prescribed by healthcare providers to help manage blood glucose levels in people with prediabetes. The medication can be an important tool alongside lifestyle changes to help prevent or delay the progression to type 2 diabetes.

I am currently prescribed Metformin and compared to the name brand it seems to be a more affordable option. Compared to Glucophage the side affects are the same; the prescribed dosage is the same, and that may help if one is paying out of pocket.
My son has his A1C in pre diabetes range. His doctor has him to continue to take Glucophage. She said it would give him better control, and help him to lose some weight. He's lost 6 pounds so far.

Thank you very much dear Graham.
I’m so appreciative for the advice.
Your posts are always so rewarding and practical.
I have actually not been taking my BS for about 6-8 weeks now, in an effort to gain weight and to improve my BMI and I’m happy to tell you that I am now 45.2 kgs (up from 42 kg) and that my BMI is now 16,2 (up from 15).
I know this sounds negligent, but I felt that I needed to do something proactive to increase my weight and if my BS showed higher figures, I would have stopped what I was doing.
I introduced potatoes back into the evening meal and have had the odd pizza and moussaka, chocolate and ice cream in moderation, and more bread.
As you are aware, I’m naturally slender, but never as low as 42kg.
I’m trying to get back to 50kg.
Last night, I did take my BS for the first time and although I hadn’t taken before or after any other meals, my BS was 5.7.
I know that can’t be a true indication, but I was thrilled.
I had consumed the following throughout the day:
Breakfast
A cup of peppermint tea to start.
A bowl of oat bran, Greak yoghurt and 10 almonds.
A bowl of banana, pawpaw and Greek yoghurt
A cup of filter coffee with a little dairy milk.
Mid morning snack
1 slice sourdough toast with melted mozzarella cheese.
Late lunch
Weekends only
1 glass of very dry Cabernet Savignon
Homemade chicken and cheese burger with mozzarella cheese, brown roll, avocado, cucumber and oven baked fries
4 blocks Cadbury dark Bournville chocolate.
Light dinner
Bowl butternut soup with chicken pieces added.
Bedtime (around 11pm)
2 blueberry rusks with Rooibos tea
Midnight snack
10 almonds.
I’m waiting for an appointment with my Endocrinologist in August, and will have an A1C test done shortly before my appointment 💕
