To answer the first part of your question
If you don't take your FBS daily and then 3 months later your A1C is unexpectedly higher than it was last time, you will have no idea whether your A1C increased because you have a Fasting Problem which must be medicated OR you have a problem of eating too many carbs at mealtime which jacked up your average
Not knowing "what" needs medicating will always lead to a more conservative type treatment - typically an addition or increase in "fasting" medications
That's "safe for the doctor" but dangerous for you. Because if it's actually a post prandial (after eating) problem, you are medicating the wrong thing and You will end up with vascular damage while being treated for the "wrong" blood sugar
Many people are willing to just hand over all those types of decisions to their Doctor - they just want to be told what to do and what they need and when without asking questions
Most Type 2's that regularly test (I wear a CGM and take no anti-diabetes meds) want to know how their diabetes is acting/progressing, how well controlled, when something changes because a 15 minute Doctor's appointment for a Diabetes Check twice a year doesn't give (me) the feeling that the Doc is "on top of things" so I better keep an eye myself....
While A1C gives a 3-month average of blood sugar control, daily blood glucose monitoring is still important. Even with regular A1C tests, healthcare providers typically recommend checking blood sugar daily because it:
- Shows your immediate blood sugar levels
- Helps identify patterns like dawn phenomenon
- Allows you to Show Full Answer
Everyone gets stored glucose released from their liver for the energy to aid in waking. Those not impaired with diabetes release enough glucose to handle the glucose shots.
We are not so blessed. For those that are less damaged, they can easily compensate.
The rest of us have to know all the tricks, and need to use them appropriately.
Do what you need to do. Good luck.
Sometimes I think we fight what is natural... I've been told it rises because it gives you a shot of energy to start activity of the day ..
I guess I have this dawn phenomenon... I'll have to talk to my dr about it.
