Dr. Frederick Banting is recognized as the most significant scientist in insulin research, as he discovered insulin. His contribution was so important that World Diabetes Day is celebrated on his birthday, November 14th. The discovery of insulin was a major breakthrough that transformed diabetes treatment. Since then, insulin development has continued to evolve. In the 1980s, scientists developed human-derived insulin using recombinant DNA biotechnology, which proved more effective than the earlier animal-derived versions.
