Meters can only count up so high

So if it's functioning properly it's telling you that your "reading" is higher than the top end threshold set for the meter

For most meters if your blood sugar is higher than 500 or 27.8 mmols it will just read "high" and that is when you should get a ride to the Emergency Room to get on insulin to bring it down or risk Diabetic Keto Acidosis or DKA which can put you into a coma follow by death if not immediately treated

A high blood sugar reading on your glucometer may not always indicate truly elevated blood glucose. Several factors can cause falsely high readings, including:

- Residue or sugar on unwashed hands
- Testing too soon after eating (especially carb-heavy meals)
- Low meter battery
- Extreme temperature exposure of testing supplies
- Squeezing finger too hard when getting blood sample To ensure accurate readings:
- Always wash and dry hands thoroughly before testing
- Test 1-2 hours after meals as recommended
- Check meter battery regularly
- Store supplies at room temperature
- Let blood flow naturally without excessive squeezing
- Use adequate blood sample size

If you get unexpected high readings, it's best to retest and contact your healthcare provider if readings remain elevated.
