Members shared practical strategies for managing holiday treats while staying on track with diabetes, with the overwhelming consensus centered on portion control, moderation, and preparing healthier alternatives in advance. Several members described tactics like eating protein and fiber first to slow carb absorption, bringing their own diabetic-friendly dishes to gatherings, testing blood sugar frequently to stay accountable, and keeping treats out of sight or opting for sugar-free versions of favorite desserts. A recurring theme was the importance of self-discipline tempered with self-compassion, with many acknowledging that occasional small indulgences are manageable when balanced with awareness, planning, and a focus on the people and meaning of holidays rather than the food.

I don’t have a sugar tooth. So the holidays are not troublesome for me.

I melt dark chocolate with some coconut oil and make a thin layer in a pan to make bark or in individual mini muffin cups. I sprinkle fresh pomegranate arils on it while it's still melted. It's not sugar free but it's a nice treat and not horrendous for you imho.

Personal discipline. I have to consciously deny myself that which will raise my blood sugar. Not easy. Last week I made a list of foods with low carbs and low calories. Now, I need to eat them on moderation. 🤫
