Does being online change the dynamics of comforting others? How does it feel to be in need and receive comfort from others online? In real life, we know to be subdued and respectful when around others who are hurting. But that "buffer" is missing on online sites. For instance, someone shares something heavy they are going through, but "life goes on" much quicker online, than in real life and quickly the posts return to the topic at hand-much quicker than in real life, I think.

I can say for myself that having the support I have found on this site, the encouragement and questions and answers have helped me. The clinic (Union clinic) that I currently go to for my health care (health team primary doctor, nurse and health coach.) I am grateful for “Diabetesteam.com” has been an excellent resource to my diabetes self-care, I have been coming on the site for over a year. I have enjoyed the interactions with others; and I am grateful 🥹. I feel happy to post things that only another diabetic could/would understand.
That’s my two cents

Great question Becky I love it. I believe this site is different and unique. If you get on FB talking about your problems someone is sure to call you a bad name. I love interacting with members on here we have mutual respect for each other. I can say this and mean it, if I'm feeling down I Say Dear Lord while I'm suffering give someone else a break. Things online do progress faster, but I think we can still show love, respect, and understanding regardless.
I have found help here from those who understand better than those without Diabetes can. While we each have a different journey, we get the challenges!
I have coached people online for the last 3 years, while it is not quite the same as being in the same room, we adapt.
If you are finding it hard, just reach out, I have done several times, and will again i am sure. You are all part of my tribe 🤩
Hi Becky, I was having an issue with my medical team and posted a question here on the forum. Answers were helpful, positive, encouraging and practical. Best place to be for our issues, I think.
@DiabetesTeam users... A group hug to all for answering. It appears that the support we give on this online site is valuable to many; despite the quicker pace of being online. I also think that our team leader @A DiabetesTeam Member has shaped the group to be a supportive one by his demonstrating what support feels and looks like. And also believe that Joyce (and a few others) are following his lead and adding a more "feminine style" to our site. As for me, I am learning and practicing my "people skills" here which I guess is also a benefit of online groups. I believe the ultimate answer is: yes, online sites do move faster (than real life) but as with most things, it is, what you make of it. Which is kinda cool. Thanks again for taking my question seriously.
