I use a CGM since Dec 2019. But sometimes if I get faulty ones I get fed up and finger stick for a while. Summer months sometimes they do not read well for me. My insurances aproved it while I was on Diabeta (sulfonylureas) in 2019 as I had frequent hypos back then. Once I came off it I still got hypos back then so insurance has never contested it ever again. I am known for reactive hypoglycemia since my 20's (actually had seizures and a cardiac respiratory arrest when my sugar levels were down to 1.7 USA 31), that is how they found out I had the hypos without being diabetic over 30 to 40 yrs ago. A new Endo last year explained to me that this condition is now considered a form of pre diabetes which can evolve to a type 2 diabetes. I was only on diabetic medications for 9 months as after diet changes I was able to come off them, so I am now considered diabetic remission, but because of my pre existing condition insurances still cover a CGM as I am now diabetic / pre diabetic. But usually in Canada only diabetics on insulin can have CGM and usually it will be a Libre system, only type 1 diabetics are allowed a Dexcom here in Canada. Once I reach 65 yrs and fall under the government medication plan, I will no longer have access to a CGM, if off diabetic medications, also they will only cover 100 strips per yr when not medicated, they do not cover needles either. So at times I wear CGM one after another, but summer months I may skip a few days or weeks, but when I do skip I needle stick at least Fbs and meals or post meals a few times at my highest Carbs meal of the day. Also if I have any radiology, MRI, CT scan, Xray etc... you need to remove the CGM so I may wait till after a planned test, so if it falls in the 2nd week of a CGM I just wait. No use wasting a CGM in this case. But wearing a CGM is what got me off diabetic medications as I was able to see what foods did to me, gave me an idea which foods to cut out or reduce and which foods were good for me. It can help new diabetics understand their diabetes better. When you compare the cost of a CGM to needles and strips and so on, it comes out to about the same by the end of the year, especially for those on insulin.

Currently using CGM, Dexcom7…

Been fairly accurate so far.

Straight up: When your CGM is working properly-it’s life changing as Sugarsurfer said.

BUT…..if you do not have a CGM, it’s ok. I have a Freestyle Freedom Lite meter along with a One-Touch Verio meter, too. I use them to keep CGM in line.
