What Tom Hanks’ Diabetes Diagnosis Does for Us Read Article...

Tom Hanks, like so many before and with him, i.e., Christina Applegate (MS), Michael J. Fox (Parkinson’s). Roman Reigns (WWE famous wrestler, Leukemia), Bruce Willis (Fronto Temporal Dementia), (I also suffer from Dementia as does, Jack Nicholson (Dementia), ad ad ad infinitum…..immediately become flag bearers of their respective diseases without saying yes.

Kinda goes with the Hollywood territory…

I respect Tom, after all, sit next to him and his wife at his favorite team home games: LA Kings. Not once have we talked ‘bout diabetes. He knows I’m diabetic as I know he is, too. Honestly, we love and talk hockey-not boring ass diabetes.

Leave celebrities alone. As Larry said, they breathe like us; need blood like us, and in Tom’s case: Just want to be left alone and in no way be a flag bearer for some hideous disease.

Go Kings..(Go Tom) (Go Everybody)

That was harsh. For me, I think it helps when people we see in entertainment suffer with the same diseases as we do. Since we all deal with our issues individually, we don't necessarily do what they do, but I enjoy knowing that they are not immune.

I recently saw Tom Hanks in Road to Perdition. Masterful performance. I always separate the politics. He is a very serious actor and I respect him for that. Take care.

Lynn, in the late 1970s a pitcher named Catfish Hunter came to the NY Yankees. He revealed he had diabetes. It was a big deal at the time. It's hard for me to accept that people on here think that because a person is famous he is immune to any kind of problems the rest of us have. Robin Williams, Heath Ledger, Marilyn Monroe. Blood runs through their veins just as it does like us. How can this be a revelation. Hanks is a very good actor and lately he's been coming to his senses but he is human just like us and no better than any of us. There is so much more to say about this. I worked in the garment district among people with very little income and no education and they happened to have very much intelligence, common sense and above all compassion. Probably much more than these celebrities we put on a pedestal.

Also, let's see Tom Hanks load trucks in 90 degree weather for 8 hours a day.
