Why Would My A1c Go Up To 7.0 When Just Recently It Was 6.0? I Do Everything Right. I Eat Healthy Three Times A Day.

I take two units of NovoLog before each meal and 8 units of Lantus before bed. If I snack, it is with popcorn or nuts.

Two units with a meal is not a lot of insulin, what are your post meal numbers like?

An A1C of 6.0% is an "average" blood sugar level of 126

To jump to 7.7% your average also had to jump to 174 which is significant - almost a 50 point average increase

You said you are eating healthy but is that "consistently" as well - are you aware of how many carbs you are consuming?

Your insulin can be tailored to "how many carbs", and 2 units (a normally functioning pancreas releases 13-14 units when we eat) can not manage "many carbs" without your numbers going high if your own production levels are low or being resisted

Thank you so much for the information. I know I need to do more of both. Starting tomorrow, more water and more exercise. No. Really.

Yes, it would

The water dilutes the blood sugar and exercise burns stored sugar in the muscles which must be replaced by "sucking sugar out of the blood" to fill them back up (they like to keep their own supply so kinda lock it away out of the blood)

I was taking more units of Novolog the first 9 months.
Then, because I was consistently low, it got to the point where I rarely needed insulin at all. I believe I took only 3 units over a 2-3 month span.

Yes, I have counted carbs since diagnosis, and keep my meals between 30 and 35 carbs. I eat 3 meals daily 4-1/2 - 5 hours apart.

Would drinking more water (I admit I don't drink enough) and exercising daily help with lowering my A1C?
