How Do You Satisfy Hunger Pangs?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
Chicago, IL

I'm doing Weight Watchers (I have to lose weight, anyway). I've discovered that I no longer need an entire meal, but I'm hungry a couple of hours later. I'm not sure what I can eat to feel satisfied. Please don't tell me raw veggies! I'm also extremely tired (I suffer from hypothyroidism). Please forgive me if I'm not making sense.

Hi @A DiabetesTeam Member,
For me, a little high quality protein, like 2 oz meat, an egg, or some nuts at each meal keeps the hunger pangs away for a longer time period.

Also, sometimes partial dehydration causes hunger like pangs. It is really your body telling you to sip more water, and maybe replace some depleted electrolytes.

Generally, sip 1/2 to 3/4 oz water daily for every pound of body weight, for optimal hydration. That is about 3-5 litres water daily for most people.

If you are eating sugars or carbs, you will crave more. When you are settled in to the lower carb lifestyle these cravings should ease.

Good luck as your body adjusts to your new right eating lifestyle..
