Morning Members, I Need To Know Is There A Difference In The Strength Of Insulin Actraphane And Actrapid. ?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I took the Actrapid and got very sick last week. I can't just go to the hospital if I have no appointment date. I went to the pharmacy to ask about it, and the lady were reluctant to help and said I should go back to the hospital. I still have Actraphane that I continue taking, but it will run out soon. Nor sure what to do 😏

The two insulin are "different"

Actrapid is a quick acting insulin, taken before a meal to deal with the carbs you are consuming in that meal

Actraphane is a mixed insulin - some percentage (depends on the exact prescription) of it will be the Actrapid to treat mealtime sugars and the other (percentage) will be Actraphane (slow acting) - it has simply combined one of the insulins you were already taking with a different one that the doctor believes you need

This "mixed" version saved you from injecting both of the insulins independantly

What should you DO - call the Doctor or Nurse or clinic or whoever and get "medical" advice - don't rely on someone on the internet to tell you what to do - that could turn deadly real quick

Morning Graham, I thing I will consult a private doctor just to get to know about the difference or a clinic. The clinic will probably just tell me to go back to the hospital where I go for treatment. They might even give me a referral letter to grant me access. Thanks for your concern

Then you are taking "too much" of the Actrapid and it needs to be adjusted - can't you just call in to a health nurse or something to get advice?

Thank you so much, I seem to understand a bit better. I will have to go back to the hospital, hope I will be seen since there are only random doctors at the hospitals here in SA. You are lucky if you get to be seen by the same doctor twice at the hospital.
The problem is that the Actrapid causes me hypoglycemia and headaches, it is scary. I am considering the Bariatric surgery, but I am only going back for my appointment for my check-up in April 2024, since November 2023.
