You can't fix it

But you can halt it or at least really slow it down by getting "excellent" control of your blood sugar

Neuropathy occurs in 1 in 2 diabetics because you barely have to be above totally normal blood sugar levels for it to develop and it will continue to progress even if you are just "a little high"

And by a little high I mean any blood sugar above 140 for more than an hour or so at a time is adding to the damage, so follow your program and take your meds (if any) - the neuropathy has started, so past the point of prevention now, into mitigation mode

If it becomes painful there is a couple of non-steroid medications that can alleviate the nerve pain but they don't heal/repair anything

Also foot care and inspection is important - you have to watch for cuts that won't heal which lead to infections that your own immune system can't fix (your nerves are dying because of lack of blood to them - the same blood that would carry the anti-bodies to fight infection)

A chat with your doctor as well about a vascular assessment may be in order to determine exactly what is going on and how to best treat

Later stage neuropathy is not pleasant and can progress to the "removal of extremities" so do take it seriously

You shouldn't be afraid, but rather motivated

@A DiabetesTeam Member start by looking for a (local) diabetes clinic, they may be able to help or to at least point you in the right direction

Where I live practically everyone has access to a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) that is Certified in Diabetes Education (CDE) and they can be the key player in your "team" (typically the central figure) which should include You, your Doctor, your Pharmacist, along with a coach/mentor, counsellor, Nurses etc

Well said, how does one arrange for life style change retreats information session because I see a lots of our SA members are struggling to cotrol glucose levels, which will ultimately lead to neuropathy ; DM in the long run. Almost all newly diagnosed could actually get relief from these life style coaches....?

Definitely changing eating habits and getting blood sugar under control but I also use a topical treatment of St John’s wort and Rosemary every morning. I make a tincture out of fresh St. John’s wort and a tincture of Rosemary. I mix them together in an amber spray bottle and apply to my feet then let dry. If you do not have thyroid issues requiring meds taking alpha lypoic acid may help too. You could infuse oil with Rosemary and at St John’s wort also but it should be fresh. I’m able to find it growing wild where we live in WI. If you search online you maybe able to find a salve, St. John’s wort alone works as well. I prefer to use herbal remedies when ever I can. I’m able to create my own with the herbs I grow or forage. Hope this helps.
