Spirits like Rye, Rum, Gin, Vodka etc - can actually cause low blood sugar if you drink too much, but a couple of drinks won't hurt as long as you don't mix them with regular pop/soda/juice that is full of sugar

So Rum and Coke Zero or Diet Pepsi won't mess with your sugar levels but there is calories in alcohol so 2 or 3 mixed drinks could be a few hundred calories and if you are watching your weight you need to stay conscious of that

Beer is a different story - different brands, whether it's light beer or dark beer etc will have varying numbers of both calories and carbs

In general Beer "could effect" you blood sugar with certain ones really jacking it up - look for low calorie/low carb beer

Wine is also variable

Each wine has a "sugar count" which tells you how many spoons of sugar is in a litre of wine

So a dry red wine with a sugar count of two only has 8 carbs (two teaspoons of sugar) in the whole bottle - most of us could handle the "sugar" in that bottle just maybe not the headache the next morning if we drank the whole thing 😁

White Wines almost always have more sugar than red and some of the dessert wines, like Ice Wine could have sugar counts up in the 70's - so would be like drinking sugar sweetened juice - not good for the blood sugar at all

Liqueurs - drinks like Irish Cream, Grand Marnier etc have varying degrees of sugar in them - most are a little beyond what a diabetic should really drink - but an occasional "shooter" may not cause a problem, but you shouldn't drink the stuff daily or even regularly
