My dr told me that your liver produces glucose during the night and this may be the reason for a high reading in the morning. This is why she has added a new medication for me (Rybelsus). Will report back if it helps at all.

So if you are "high" when you wake up then you are not taking enough insulin at night - talk to your doctor about increasing your dose - it should be adjusted until you are getting normal morning numbers consistently
