What you can "expect" depends a lot on you now

An A1C of 10.2% "tends to indicate" that you have been Diabetic for some time now, just not diagnosed - that is way out of control

Uncontrolled Diabetes is a path you don't want to crawl down. It causes:

Blindness (retinopathy)
Kidney Disease which can ultimately lead to dialysis and total kidney failure
Vascular Dementia - looks like Alzheimer's but can't be treated the same way
Congestive Heart Failure
Stroke
Heart Attack
Peripheral Neuropathy which in end stage is responsible for amputations

If you Don't Want to experience those that happen 100% of the Time in Uncontrolled Diabetes you are going to need to make changes to how you eat, your weight and levels of exercise OR take a lot of meds and likely will initially require insulin (recommended if your initial A1C is over 9.0 - you have to stop the carnage) OR a combination of both

Body Weight is the single biggest "changeable factor" in the management of Type 2 - it is nearly impossible to control without a truckload of meds, if you are not at normal weight

And this isn't body shaming, Type 2 is metabolic disorder and it is the bodies way of saying "might be OK for Bob to be 50 pounds overweight, but if you are I am going to really mess you up"

80 to 90% of Type 2's would not have ever became Type 2 if their weight had have been normal (BMI 18.5-25), they ate properly (and we have heard for decades we should eat healthier) and get more active

Get through your appointment with your Primary and then there will be more to discuss

Not trying to scare you - Controlled Diabetes is neither deadly nor life altering - uncontrolled diabetes is a nightmare you don't want to experience and given your age you are going to have to manage this for decades if you want to get close to life expectancy with decent function - Diabetes is serious - ignore it because you "feel fine today" and you won't feel fine tomorrow

It IS Serious - give it some respect
