How Worried Are You About Side Effects?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

The questions about side effects of prescribed drugs are valid

Any time you put a foreign substance in your body there is likely to be some "side effect", sometimes none noticeable, sometimes minor or fleeting and sometimes downright nasty

BUT don't forget WHY the Doctor is even considering prescribing that Nasty-Dangerous Medication

Specifically when talking about Diabetic Medications too many come in with the (apparent) attitude that they have some OTHER Choice

Of course you have the… read more

Control your diabetes journey. Control your numbers to the nondiabetic range of 4.0(72) to 7.8(140). This will arrest your diabetes complications and comorbidities right where they are now.

Do it and control your diabetes journey.
Don't and diabetes will control your life and bring you all the complications.

It's your choice.
Do it. And control your life and health.

Don't and live a miserable last 10 years.

I repeat
Do it or
Don't.

first thing i do when new meds is discussed or prescribed is research the side effects.I firmly believe that the cure should not be worse than the condition..I changed drugs for breast cancer three times before finding one i could tolerate.........and over the years have stopped a number of meds,BP,blood sugar etc where i was being adversely affected. I stick to the schedule for the meds that i take, but do need to be happy about taking them

Good morning GrahamLamb - Happy Friday
Absolutely been posting some really great questions lately.
So for me the first side effect I learned about was with Metformin early years of thinking I knew better then the doctor. Take it with food she said 🙂 of course I asked why? she said you don't want to deal with the possible
side-effects. Well I followed the instructions, however one day I'm rushing and just pop 500 mgs pill in my mouth and go on with my day. Still did not eat anything by 10 am and drank a cup of coffee 😳 I sat at the desk and there was this noise coming from my stomach, with a rumbling and I went to the ladies room. Side effect I was happy my supervisor understood why I should take a half day off work and go home. She put an out of order on the ladies room door because the spray did not help, everything I ate for a few days was in the toilet.🙄 That was my first side effect downright nasty episode. I learned to ask questions doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and I googled all medications given to me; and looked up the pharmaceutical company.
I really learned a lot over the years after some side-effect episodes.
2023 - Ozempic In September of last year Ozempic was added to my medical treatment plan; the old treatment plan was not working anymore after the last two years. The clinic I go to has a team theme and it works because the nurse, doctor and sometimes the food lady (nutritionist) all are in the room with me and they explained that my diabetes is changing and no longer is doing well with current medications and I would start taking another insulin once a week slowly. Okay no problem I want to live! Well my youngest daughter has been taking Ozempic for the last two years she has lost weight and her A1C has been really good. So I called her and she said
"Mommy I did want to tell you it was going to happen" My A1C most of last year were not good (10.5, 11) so I asked her how she feels about taking two insulin and metformin. She replied "I want to live mommy"
Still a little hard head just older now I didn't read, look up or anything. I took the first shot and ate what I wanted to eat; well honey I was hugging the toilet most of that day and called out from work. I have not had any more episodes 🤞🏽crossing my fingers on both hands.
So thanks for the question GrahamLamb!
Above is my two cents
Ohhhh one of the solutions that came out of the new medication was finding this site. It's good to have a place to get information and help with living with diabetes.
Thanks again

Now everything that has happened to me! I wonder if it is a side effect of my diabetes! And plus we heal very slowly and that sucks! Keep kicking these great questions, Graham!
