Members rallied around someone puzzled by blood sugar readings of 135-140 despite careful carb management, with most agreeing the meter was likely fine but offering multiple helpful troubleshooting steps. Several members shared practical advice including checking battery strength (weak batteries can cause high readings), ensuring test strips are fresh and stored properly, washing hands thoroughly before testing, and using adequate blood drop size, while also gently reminding that diabetes is a progressive disease that may require medication adjustments over time. A recurring theme was the critical role of regular exercise in blood sugar control, with many members emphasizing that even with perfect eating habits, physical activity often makes the difference in keeping numbers where they want them.

This disease can sure be frustrating. Stress can elevate your sugar so take a deep breath and don’t let it consume your thoughts. Also try drinking more water.

How old is your meter?

Did you test on another finger to compare?

Diabetes is a progressive disease so it's also possible that your blood sugar really is higher even if you haven't changed anything you are doing

Hi @A DiabetesTeam Member,
Some basics on blood glucose meters.
1) wash and dry your hands. Salt, sugar or fruit juice will skew your readings high.
2) too small a blood drop will skew your readings high.
3) a week battery gives high readings, till it won't work.

Good luck.
