Always take metformin with food. The stomach issues usually begin to ease after 2 months. You can also ask for the xr version. It is easier on the stomach.

Both xr, extended release, and regular should never be taken without food. If it has been more than a month and you are taking it with food each time, talk with your doctor and they can prescribe a different medication.

Good luck.
