A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I went to my doctor yesterday and had my A1C checked it had been 3 months since my last one. My last one was 5.9 which i was very proud of but when the doctor call me today about the one i had yesterday it was 6.3 . Now I'm very disappointed in myself i have worked so hard getting it down by eating better and losing 28 pounds so far , my problem is i don't know why it went to 6.3 cause i haven't done anything different from 3 months ago until now so I'm very confused why it went up. Your body changes all the time. My periods used to cause my sugar to rise; illness; injuries; stress etc. The sugar fluctuates in all of us. 6.3 is a great number; be proud of your accomplishment and keep up the great work!

Nana, I suggest you communicate with your doctor about your A1C numbers and ask what can you do? Are you exercising? Eating baked meats, veggies and limited bread and pasta? Are you drinking enough water? Some foods have hidden sugar in them. My A1C numbers went from 5.4-5.7 and go back in January for blood work. I'm not on medication but I have a healthier diet and I often walk and drink plenty of water throughout the day. I wish you well and great health. Don't be disappointed in yourself, we're still learning with illness. I also to test for hypertension ( high blood pressure) daily, sometimes twice. I give it to God and let it go.

I had the same thing happen to me. I worried about it, but I just couldn't do away with anything more...I quit sweets, sugar, less bread. So...I just didn't change anything I was doing, and 6 months later I went down from 6.3 to 5.2...no idea why or how. That is why there really isn't any cure for diabetes...Too hard to stabilize as every person's metabolism is different from one day to the next. I don't worry anymore, I just keep doing what I have been doing for that past 6 years when I found out I was "Pre-Diabetic" (whatever that is LOL). Just keep doing what you are doing...as long as it isn't above 7.0 you are good. Happy New Year!
