Does Anyone Here Struggle W/repeating Patterns If Overeating? It Brings Guilt, Shame, Anger & Frustrationi

It's a continual pattern. I will tell myself I am not going to overeat at dinner & do it anyway. How do I become more disciplined? I know I am an emotional eater...

Hello Carla54
Well you're not alone in the struggle! I LOVE to eat!
So I have been to a number of nutritionists who gave me some solutions for emotional eating over the years.
1. We started with a food journal; everything I put in my mouth went into this little note book. I did this for a month and we went over it the following month at next appointment.
2. I also listed my reasons ( feelings) for eating other than (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, last snack) Healthy meals and snacks were suggested.
3. I now use an app MyFitnessPal and last year the nutritionist helped me learn how to find healthy foods to make and eat.
I don't eat out like I used to and portion control has helped me over the years.
I still fall a little short on eating habits, but I keep trying to improve how I take care of myself (self-care) as I'm living with diabetes.
My last nutritionist helped me with healthy alternatives to eating off days.
Example: Pizza with extra cheese and sausage (love it)
my exchange: Pizza with vegetables or salad slices (1 slice not both)
I learned how to make cauliflower fried rice with vegetables/shrimps/tofu.
She also showed me how to look for healthy foods online
(first with her then without her) my insurance only covered a few visits.
So hopefully this will be a little helpful and if you can see a nutritionist it would help, this platform has a lot of great information for us living with diabetes.
A team mate on here said baby steps and it's true, if you fall off just get back up and try again. And it's helpful to ask questions.
Okay that's my two cents.
I still love to eat, but I eat to live with diabetes. 😁

Diabetes is not an easy enemy to deal with. Throws you off balance often. Don't bee too hard on yourself, start small and take it from there. Increase water intake, smaller portions.
