A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I don't know if there is an "official answer" to my question

What I do know is the EASD (EU's version of the ADA or the Commonwealth's "Diabetes XX - (UK, Canada, South Africa etc) recommends that Pre-Diabetics treat with low dose Metformin (typically 500 mg)

Their studies have shown that it delays onset of Type 2 by "greater than 10 years" IF the patient ever gets over the threshold at all

So I can only talk about what "I" plan to do

I was diagnosed in Aug of 2016 and was in Clinical… read more

How Does This Happen?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Everyone here lives in a well developed country with decent medical systems in place.

So how is it that a Type 2 that has been dealing with the disease for about 6 years, who has seen multiple doctors and is now seeing yet another for a (known) Diabetic Complication (Frozen Shoulder) that they have NO CLUE what a Carb is?

I spent an hour today talking to this individual in person. I was asked if I would spend a bit of time with them to give some "basic information".

Besides Bragging Rights And Not Having To Take Meds, Is There Any "benefit" To Remission?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Until about 15 years ago nobody in the Diabetes world talked about remission for Type 2 Diabetics

Then a bunch of researchers in the US (Look Ahead Study) and the UK (DiRECT Study) went on a mission to see what would happen if you "forced" Type 2's to lose weight, eat properly and get some exercise

What they found was that fully "half" could achieve remission if they met some basic criteria and actually stuck with the program

Today "Remission" is clinically defined as - maintaining an A1C… read more
