Which Carbs Counting App Do You Use Which Includes The Sugar Alcohols And Erythritol.
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I use Nutritionix app, but it does not have a section for sugar alcohol nor Erythritol, I have to deduct these on my own and keep track of them. Since I had a tooth removed yesterday I am trying to track my Net Carbs as mostly eating some of the soft Keto snacks I have so they are high in fat also, I am not used to eating mostly Keto foods but out of options for now. I had stopped using apps and restarted recently as part of my 21 day challenge to myself. It would make it easier to be able to at… read more

@A DiabetesTeam Member I use only my laptop so am somewhat limited to apps. I use the free Fatsecret. It doesn't count sugar alcohols or erythritol. Based on my simple research I started out keeping my sugar under 25-30 daily. But as a "carb addict" it is my carbs that require the closest attention.

Also my priorities shifted over the past year at times depending on what "fire" needed to be "put out" at any one time. While carbs remain my number one priority, I have also had to focus on my sodium intake (high bp) and also fat intake due to fatty liver and cholesterol, in addition to calories. I believe my "fatburger" lifestyle caused me to have metabolic syndrome-so I have to try to address several issues at once- and not sugar or carbs alone. That is the best understanding I have about it. At the same time trying to boost the protein and fiber. At some point I may fine-tune the "process" but for now it is like "shot-gunning" and "hitting as many targets as possible".

@A DiabetesTeam Member It's good that you are aware of your elevated bp-so many people aren't. And working to lower it now may prevent you from having to take yet another pill. Personally, I don't want to end up on kidney dialysis from taking too many meds for too long. I am beginning to suspect that a lot of medicines were intended to be taken for a limited amount of time, until the patient makes the necessary lifestyle changes (but we know how that goes).

My systolic bp increased over the years as I put on weight, and I kept having to up my pill dosage to lower it. A few months after changing my diet to low carb-low fat last year, I also lowered my sodium intake to 1500g daily. I was then shocked to discover that the majority of store-bought food is high sodium. My new "go to" for ham rollups (no bread) was loaded with sodium, cottage cheese and fresh turkey breasts for baking were also high sodium. I have yet to find a replacement for the ham slices but have found a low sodium cottage cheese called "good culture". After much searching, I also found a low sodium turkey to bake at home (whole or breast) at Wegman's market, but it is expensive.

The search for low-sodium foods was a real eye-opening experience for me. I used to buy a lot of my food at Sam's Club-unfortunately many of the items they sell are high sodium. I now pay more at other stores to get low-sodium foods. :( Thankfully I can-but many can't. Oh, I also now buy low (or no) salt, canned black beans and garbanzo beans and can now find a no-salt chicken broth on the shelves.

I used to take 100mg of bp med and am down to 20mg now. My pulse rate is around 50-my doc recently started me on a statin-but is planning on taking me off of it soon. I recently read that 80% of people with type 2 is due to obesity. While I was pre-diabetic at 6.4 A1C-I believe I am representative of that group. I also learned first-hand how much diet and lifestyle impacted my health. What I had going on was metabolic syndrome: elevated glucose levels, elevated bp, elevated cholesterol, fatty liver, etc....all due to my "fatburger" lifestyle! (Fattburger is a jazz band I really like). Take care-what is your MRI for?

I use myfitnesspal but sugar alcohol is not included in the free version. I use it primarily to convert recipes in the create a recipe feature. I wish I could find one that does figure net carbs.

I have tried a few today, opened accounts and then deleted if does not have sugar alcohol or Erythritol. You would think since most foods I buy now has Erythritol written in the Carbs section right under sugar that an app would exist when you scan the bar code. I will keep searching or if someone has one which does so. So far only the nutritionix allows you to write notes on the total of the day, so going to try and add in there and just add them up, but this involves checking each one individually as scanning them does not indicate it.
