I have heard many Diabetics speak that the weather affects their blood sugars...but just HOW does it do this?? Also how do I combat the weather? How can I? Lately, my control has gotten out of control and it isn't because I am overeating or even eating the wrong things. HELP!

HOWDY JANYCE! Regarding my post about a winter diet none of my ideas have any official recipes I just make them from whatever I have in my home/fridge/freezer but I do keep a drawer in my freezer free for leftover chicken, chicken carcass (brilliant with veg and herbs for homemade stock for soups, stews, casseroles), leftover juices from roast chicken, beef and occasional lamb (great for adding flavour to gravies), frozen mixed veg in case the weather is bad n I can't get to a supermarket for fresh veg, cheap cuts of beef (brisket, skirt, flank, chuck steak) a joint of lean brisket cooked slowly in my slowcooker with left over stock from my freezer is way better and way more flavourful than an expensive roasted (topside, silverside, fillet) of beef and makes better way more flavourful gravies, skirt, flank or chuck steak with the fat trimmed off n coarsely diced is brilliant for hearty stews n casseroles, the fat I fry to release it's liquid fat then I throw the leftover fat pieces out and use the liquid meat fat with flour to.make a homemade roux as a base for homemade gravies/sauces. If I haven't got any leftover stock then I'm not against buying stockpots but only when I need which isn't often. I buy cheaper less well known cuts of fish like coley (great substitute for cod) unless my neighbour gives me cod he's caught himself, Vietnamese River Fish is a tasty cheaper fish, I buy fresh veg from neighbours who grow their own on allotments when they sell their surplus. My brother Patrick and my neighbours Terry and Marnie give me some of their homegrown rhubarb but I also buy fresh fruit n veg from supermarkets when surplus from friends n neoghbours is out of season. I buy leftover fish pieces/ from a fishmonger which may be leftovers from cod, haddock, salmon, smoked haddock, cheaper tiny peeled prawns which altogether make a gorgeous fish pie with a cheese crusted leeks n mashed potato topping baked till golden n crispy makes a great fish pie. You don't have to make big drastic changes to ur diet in winter u just have to change what u cook with ingredients u already have in ur fridge, freezer and cupboards, bung this/that/whatever in ur slowcooker, add high fibre/protein, vitamin and mineral rich vegetables and pulses homemade stock made from leftovers, together with a basic roux to thicken then bung it in ur slowcooker with seasoning and as long as it tasted delicious then Its all good. SIMPLES!!!

G'DAY JG! When I cook lentils I soak them overnight in fresh cold water then cook them till they're tender then I use them in lentil & bacon soup or I make DAAL which is an Indian peasant dish, it's a lentil curry. Ur new shoes look very comfortable, I buy diabetic shoes/trainers sandals/slippers from FITVILLE on AMAZON and from the FITVILLE WEBSITE. Regarding cold weather you just have to eat ur normal everyday food but make more stews/casseroles/good hearty soups and UP UR WALKING and activity levels, POWER WALK instead of normal walking and wear warmer clothes u don't have to do anything special. TAKE GOOD CARE OF URSELF JG LUV YA!

Staying hydrated is so important in this heat. Less blood volume means higher concentration of glucose !
